THE POOR AND THE POWERFUL

(Picture "stolen" from Daniel's writing blog )
Power corrupts
Poverty rusts
Power poisons
Poverty weakens
The poor look up to the powerful
The powerful look down to the poor

A slice of bread for the bin,
In the home of the powerful
At times they have no time to eat
They think strategies of staying in power
And forget all about food

A slice of bread for a feast,
In the house of the poor
At times they don’t eat
They only epitomize of their next meal
And endure the hunger harassing their intestines

I WANT TO WRITE A POEM

I want to write a poem.
With a pencil and a pen
A poem of my motherland
My land not England
To directors of state enterprise,
It will come as a surprise
To directors of the uniformed forces
Those who have no choices
To directors of intelligence
Who intimidate by presence
To directors of dictatorship

I want to write a poem
Plain and solemn
A poem of distress
With a point to stress
Which none can suppress
I want to write that poem soon
Before the next new moon
Only if guaranteed freedom
Freedom not free doom
Not only of expression,
But also after expression

AS WE CELEBRATE AFRIKA DAY….

1963 was the year
25 may is the day
Let us celebrate brothers and sisters
Let us celebrate our unity
And dignity

Let us celebrate even in our oppression
Let us celebrate and remind our leaders the cause
Let us celebrate our strength
Let us celebrate the power of the black man
Let us celebrate the strength of a black woman
We are Africans, and we celebrate Afrika day

Let us celebrate the freedom of our lions
The freedom of our rivers
The freedom of our birds
The freedom of our minerals
Let us celebrate
The freedom of our land
Let us celebrate Afrika

We celebrate the victory of Uganda
The victory of Zimbabwe
The victory of Azania
The victory of all African states
The victory against colonialism
We celebrate the victory,
That ushered us into a new war
A war and permanent struggle between blacks,
And blacks.

Addis Ababa still echoes in our minds
Ethiopia still remains in our thoughts
We celebrate and remember Nkwame Nkruma
Nelson Mandela and Chiluba
Seretse Khama and Uhuru
We shout Uhuru Afrika

As we celebrate Afrika Day
Lest we forget the true beginning
Be reminded dictator
Be reminded you who rule with an iron fist
Remember and be reminded of the day
The day when Afrika stood as one

Afrika for Africans
Men and women of valor
Let us celebrate our power
Let us celebrate our unity
Mayibuye iAfrika !

THREE TASKS

Before you die
You, Mr. Press-Indent
Make amends to the ruling script
This one, none can direct
Especially after you are gone

Before you die
You, Mean ’n Sinister of Die-fence
Apologize to all victims of your fury
For no angel can do it for you
Especially when you are in hell

Before you die
You, City Zen of this crooked net-tin
Teach your son to vote in peace
For no democrat will do it
Especially if they see you bring butchered

LUYINI UKHETHO?

Kambe luyini ukhetho?
Kukhehla lesikhobokhobo
Elakhetha lakhethelwa nyakenye
Laphinda njalo laphindwa.

Luyini ukhetho na?
Kuskhokho semakhokhoba
Esakhetha bagcina impumela
Sabhekwa umkhoba
Sahlala ebridge sathi kho
Sakhohlwa ukuthi sakhethwa.

Lutshoni ukhetho kuwe wesindebele ?
Odlwangulwe wabhekwa okwamaphumelo
Kambe lamhla lutshoni ukhetho ?
Lapho sithi singakhetha bethi asikhethanga kahle.

Kambe ungakhetha uthini ?
Kulomgaxa lenja
Ungakhethani ?
Phakathi komkhongolo lomgodoyi
Hawu kukhethwani ?
Impumela bezazigcinela.

Lamhla sihlabela ukhetho oluzayo
Silibala ukuthi alukaze lubekhona
Kuphela isisanasana umtshado wemigaxa

Saqala kude le
Bathi ukukhetha inkunzi nje,uzithezele olulenkume
Basipha umabhanke iqhude elingazaliyo
Basihuquza ngesiqhotho sebusika
Zaphela izihlobo
Sazibona izibunu zenyoka
Sawukhomaba olotshwala

Saphaphama sathi sibonile
Sayikhetha impama
Basiwakala ngayo basikhomba ingqindi
Sabuswa ngodli
Sabuswa ukubuswa qho

Kambe luyini ukhetho ?
Abadlali bengonompembe.
Luyini ukhetho?
Omunye umdlali edlala ebophe
 abanye imbila zikakonda.

Ayicentwe inkundla
Kayiqondiswe imithetho
Kawalingane amathuba
Zidibane feyafeya

Kambe luyini na ukhetho ?
Ngalesisikhathi
Ngalolusuku
Kambe luyini na ukhetho ?
Ngabe ngumdlaloo wokuzilibazisa
Loba lithuba lokubulalana
Kambe luyini ukhetho lapha
Konyamakayidliwa ?

SILENCE

Raped,
Maimed..
Abused…
But silent

It’s not golden,
To be raped and lip knit
It’s not golden,
To be raped and your shout is not heard

Silence is golden
Being silent is being forgotten
Sometimes silence is rotten
At times silence has to be broken

Speak out young lady
Speak out young lad
Why keep silent?
The cause is worth screaming of.

I don’t trust

They take from the former,
Their hate is deeper,
Their violence is worse,
Their promises have no base.

I don’t trust the clenched fist
It has destroyed since its first
It remains up for crushing
Any action opposing

Neither do I trust the open palm
It looks fake and represents no calm
It’s too weak though
It can’t prepare national dough

I don’t trust the men in parliament
They are all products of hate and protest
After all, in their high wheels they careless
Of the voter who was once sleepless

I don’t trust the police
They don’t protect, they force
I don’t trust the private eyes of his Excellency
They kill and mistake my decency

Leaders of this day don’t trust
All citizens they distrust
I don’t trust them either
For they trust not each other

You can die for your creativity
You can be arrested for any activity
Your thoughts may get you arrested
Your voice can get you castrated

I don’t trust any political party
